About Misfyt
Misfyt is a trans youth-led organization based in India, working to ensure that trans and non-binary people have access to dignified livelihood opportunities, mental health support, and a sense of belonging. We connect trans individuals with inclusive jobs, run capacity-building programs, and offer peer-led support through our helpline and digital community. Our work also includes shifting narratives through media, and nurturing trans leadership at every level. At our core, we celebrate joy, authenticity, and boldness — because trans people don’t just deserve inclusion, we deserve to thrive.
Role of the Steering Committee Members
The Steering Committee (SC) at Misfyt is a collective, community-based group that helps guide the organization’s vision, direction, and accountability. It holds the heart of Misfyt’s mission—making sure the organization stays connected to the real-life experiences, knowledge, and leadership of trans and gender-diverse communities. The SC works to ensure that Misfyt’s efforts are not just inclusive, but also create meaningful change. It also offers a space for action and leadership development, especially for young trans people across India who want to be part of the trans movement but may need support, guidance, and opportunities to get started.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in once in 2 months catch-up calls and bi-yearly strategy meetings
- Provide insights for Misfyt’s programs (e.g. helpline, job portal, mental health programs)
- Amplify community voices in decision-making
- Be a sounding board for Misfyt’s direction, visibility, and collaborations
- Contribute to task-based working groups (optional but encouraged)
- Represent Misfyt at events, fellowships and other external programs (optional but encouraged)
We’re looking for folks who:
- Identify as trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming from India between the age of 18-35 Years
- Individuals from DBA, disabled, neurodivergent, muslim, and sex worker communities are especially encouraged to apply
- Are passionate about intersectional justice,
- Are collaborative, curious, and reflective
- May have prior experience in activism, art, healing, policy, skilling, job placements or community-building—but it’s not a must
- Interested in contributing to and helping Misfyt take innovative steps in one of the following key thematic areas of work –
– Organisational Development
– Online and Offline Campaigns
– Community Wellbeing
– Use of technology
– Skilling and Job/Entrepreneurship Models
– Art & Culture in Activism

Selection Process
A panel of current SC and board members will select 4-5 new members to serve as SC members. When selecting candidates, every effort will be made to ensure diversity across regions, gender identities, expressions, and expertise. Participatory voting by other candidates may be used to shortlist candidates.
